three tangent tuesday.

Three Tangent Tuesday time, here we go:

1. The other night at the grocery store, I needed flour, and found this! Pretty nice for a bag of flour huh? I'm sure many of you have seen this before, but I was super excited. I intend to make a pillow with it with some mustard-yellow linen and some burlap.

2. After a hearty trip to Costco, we returned home with many boxes. Savvy LOVES the boxes. So Jared made a kitty castle with them! We're talking holes that lead up to the next level.. and he even added ramps after I took this photo. That spoiled little cat is in castle heaven now. Pretty ugly (sorry honey) but she loves it and it's fabulous, so I'm okay with it. Nice work, honey!

3. MY GLASSES ARRIVED all the way from the Netherlands!!! I love them. They don't have lenses in them yet.. still need to find a place that will do that (Costco turned me down). But I'm hopeful, and cannot wait to be able to wear them!!! (I may or may not be wearing them around the house, lense-less.)

music monday. cat power.

I am feeling pretty sentimental on this Music Monday. Let me just explain that I have a rockstar husband... and, I have a huge crush on him. I am one lucky girl. Every single day, we laugh, we flirt, we joke... we love being married. One night back when we were still dating, we were sitting in the car talking and talking (postponing saying good night). Music was randomly playing when "Sea of Love" performed by Cat Power began to play. I will always remember that night and how overwhelmed with love I was for my sweetheart.

Enjoy.

succulents.

Jared and I love going on walks. I especially love seeing beautiful flowers, plants, and the unique charm to the neighborhoods in downtown Salt Lake City. Succulents are one of my favorites and I always get excited when I see them in someone's yard. I have never grown succulents, but really want to start. They're gorgeous! Anyway, here are some fun ways to plant succulents.

Enjoy.

They can be planted in lions...

and hanging from the ceiling. pretty cool, if you ask me.

new favorite recipe.

First, thank you to the well wishes post accident. We're happy and well. I haven't wanted to go anywhere since the accident with the aches and pains, so luckily I already had the ingredients to cook this meal for Jared and I. I found this recipe on The Bitten Word via The Kitchn and had to try it. This dish may be my new favorite...

Ingredients

* Kosher salt
* 12 oz. egg tagliatelle or fettuccine (I used fetuccine)
* 2 Tbsp. (1/4 stick) unsalted butter
* 2 oz. thinly sliced prosciutto, torn into 1" pieces
* Zest and juice of 1 orange
* 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
* Freshly ground black pepper
* 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan

Preparation

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Season with salt; add pasta and cook, stirring occasionally, until 1 minute before al dente. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup pasta water.

Meanwhile, melt butter in a large heavy nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add prosciutto; sauté until browned, about 3 minutes.

Add reserved pasta water (I forgot to add the pasta water--still turned out great), orange juice, orange zest, and cream; bring to a boil. Add pasta; cook, stirring, until sauce coats pasta and pasta is al dente, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in cheese and divide among warm bowls. Garnish with remaining zest.

(Then stuff your face.)

Cheers!

crazy driver part II.

I'll keep this short and sweet. It's a bit ironic that as a part of TTT yesterday, I mentioned my frustration with a special driver who bumped into us at a stop light.. because last night we got a lot more than just a bump. We were stopped at a red light when a big Dodge Ram pickup took on our little Civic and rear ended us. Side note, Dodge Rams trump Civics, in case you were wondering. Always. Our poor car is going to need a lot of work. I am in a lot of pain today, pretty bad whiplash, and am debating whether to just ice and take excedrin, or make a doctor visit. We'll see. Oh, and another side note, after the back end of your vehicle has been annihilated, be cautious as you walk by it. While walking, I stabbed my leg with a sharp piece of the car jutting out. I now have a huge black and blue knot surrounding the puncture wound. I will consider posting photos of my leg, it's not too pretty. But overall we're ok and grateful for that.

three tangent tuesday.

Aaaand it's time for Three Tangent Tuesday. It's freezing here in SLC. The other day it was close to 80, BEAUTIFUL. And today it SNOWED!! boo! My fingers are freezing as I type this. I'm wearing Jared's slippers and now I need mittens. Ok... now for some tangents.

1. Kitchen mat inspiration.

I have been searching for an attractive "comfort" kitchen mat for so long. I can't do the rooster, veggie, or coffee mug look. And that's all I can seem to find. But I recently came across an Apartment Therapy kitchen mat makeover where a new design was just painted onto the mat! Hopefully I'll be doing this in the near future..

2. Crazy driver!

Today Jared and I were driving on Foothill in SLC and were stopped at the light at Sunnyside. Suddenly, we felt a strange movement to the car, like it had stalled or something, but... it didn't. I looked at Jared, "did someone just hit us?" We looked behind us and the car behind us was kissin our bumper! Jared got out, checked our bumper and went to talk to the driver. She rolled down her window and only said that her foot slipped off of the brake because of the rain. That's it. No apology. No remorse. He let it go because the light was changing and there was no visible damage. But I was borderline freaking out. How could you not apologize if you did that??? Seriously? It's simple, really! Am I out of line here??? Ugh, I was so bugged.

3. Goodness gracious I love this home.

So, last week I posted my ultimate fave Apartment Therapy house tour (Amy Butler's).. but now I have some major house envy to add to the list. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. It is beautiful and so rich and original. Enjoy. Swoon. Full house tour found here on Apartment Therapy.

music monday. coconut records.

Happy music monday! This week Jared and I are house/dog sitting at my brother Andy's place. We LOVE their dog, Javi, the Newfoundland. She's gigantic. And gorgeous. Andy & Annette are getting their upstairs bathroom remodeled, so I have my headphones in, drowning out the noise with Coconut Records. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Definite favorite of both Jared's and mine.

thunderstorms & eyeglasses.

For quite a while now, I have been on a hunt for the perfect eyeglass frames. I've come across some that were fine, nothing wrong with them, but I'm holding out until I find a pair I LOVE. Problem is, I can't find anywhere that sells the styles I'm looking for. Until now...! Problem solved. The last couple of days I have been looking at vintage eyeglass frames online. Now the problem isn't finding a pair I love, it's choosing one out of so many fabulous frames!!!
So.. I am enjoying my day off, missing my honey while he's at work, and searching through Etsy (mostly) to narrow down the search. I'm finding so many vintage frames (anywhere from the 1940's-1990's) that have never been used and are in great condition. Once I choose one I'll just take it to Costco to replace the lenses with my prescription. To make things better, a thunderstorm just rolled through and it was fantastic! The photo above is Savvy investigating the thunder out the window.
Here are a few of the frames I'm looking at... all of the following frames are found on etsy.com.

the next ones are my current favorite..

three tangent tuesday.

another week has passed, and it's time again for three tangent tuesday (where I blog about three random things).

1. house envy.

one of my favorite textile designers, amy butler, was featured on apartment therapy recently. her home is AMAZING. i have a very eclectic style and am very picky when it comes how i decorate our home. but i can now say that i could comfortably live in amy's home without changing a thing. maybe amy and i could work that out... here is her space. drool...

2. cake stands.

i love cake stands, and i am always on the lookout for one worth purchasing. here are some beautiful ones i have come across..

this first one is mine, used for our wedding cake. my brother, tyler, is amazing. he made it for us.

3. our little Savvy girl..

there was a time in my life where I was solely a dog person. chances are fairly good that the majority of people reading this are dog-only people. that's ok... you're still fabulous, I'm sure. but I guarantee if you had a chance to save a pretty little kitty from the pound, that would change. I am suddenly in LOVE with this little girl! and maybe, slightly obsessed. so, to you dog people who roll your eyes when I talk about my cat. whatever! you'd love her if you were around her... no doubt. some day I will be thrilled to get a big dog, but for now, I am loving this cat.
