fancy.

After working twelve hours, cooking is the last thing I want to do, especially when it's 1 am. We really are night owls. So sweet Jared had dinner "cooking" when I got home. I requested burgers. Partly because I knew we didn't have many other options with our lack of groceries. And... partly because we love burgers. These were the simplest of burgers, no veggies available. However, we did have the most wonderful barbeque sauce made (again) by my sister, Dori. Thanks Dori! So good!

Full on Carl's Jr. sauce drippage. Fantastic.

We kept things simple for our romantic burger dinner. Oh, and thank you to Robin Thicke for joining us. You are always welcome.

nine months and never better.

Today Jared and I have been married for nine months. I know, forever. These short months have flown and I am blown away by our love, our friendship, and our excitement for the future.

To my love, Jared...

thank you, for...

making me laugh, every day
holding me in your arms
listening to me ramble, often, and genuinely caring about my nonsense
playing sentimental songs for me to communicate your love
holding my hand while we sleep
cooking delicious meals
slow dancing with me, often
having fabulous taste in music that we very much enjoy together
always being patient with me
appreciating my quirky style
being so Christlike
appreciating the beautiful world we live in
being such a hard worker
putting up with me when I'm grumpy and unnecessarily emotional
cleaning our apartment
making our bed
telling me you love me, 93 times a day. it will NEVER get old
opening every door for me. every day.
having an immaculately groomed mustache
your kindness and thoughtfulness
laughing. it is so contagious.
your eagerness to be a loving father. someday.
tolerating my back seat driving issues
reading out loud to me
eating my cooking. whether burned, or just plain gross
telling me I'm beautiful
holding my hand wherever we go
being so considerate of my needs
encouraging me spiritually with your good example
asking me to marry you
loving me

You're my sweetheart. I love you forever. Happy nine months darling. I am, the luckiest.

bedtime snack.

Ever since I was little, poached eggs were my favorite. But apparently Mom spoiled me because tonight was a first for me. I successfully poached eggs. Got home from work around 12:45 am and was starving. I know I should have just gotten over it and gone to bed, but I didn't. Instead, I conjured up some poached eggs, toast, and even had some homemade strawberry and apricot jam that my sister Dori made and gave me today. I realize the eggs look super barfy, but they were oh so yummy (and so was the jam, Dori.. thanks!) Jared and I enjoyed our lil meal on our bed and had a fun little recap of our days.

Eating poached eggs with toast is a MUST. You should always save some toast for cleaning up the
yummy egg heavenly goodness in the bowl. By the way, another "must"... always mash your poached eggs with a fork while mixing in butter, salt, and pepper. Delicious.

Salt Lake City. Home.

Jared is originally from Washington and moved here to go to the LDS Business College. I grew up in Phoenix and initially came to Provo to attend Brigham Young University. Neither of us considered Salt Lake City our "home"... but since getting married, it has become our first home together and we are certainly enjoying our time here. We currently live in a historic apartment building right in the middle of downtown SLC. We love our apartment, as TINY as it may be. There is wonderful history downtown, and we love to admire the beauty in the architecture around us. Many of the homes here have such beautiful charm and character. We often go on walks and snap pictures of the homes and buildings that catch our attention. So, even though we may not be in SLC long term, it is our home for now. And, where we fell in love.

rockstar husband.

Jared and I are night owls. We usually work very late hours, and tend to stay up ridiculously late because of that. So, we often have late starts to our days. But yesterday we woke early enough to make it to our favorite breakfast joint in SLC... The Park Cafe. Mmm! I always order their french toast and Jared enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. Scrumptious. Then we ventured down to Jordan Commons to see Despicable Me, so darling, so funny. Following our day's activities, we came home to lots of laundry waiting to be done. With our roll of quarters, we successfully completed 4 loads of laundry in our building's meager laundry room. I pooped out after the first couple loads (long after midnight) and Jared heroically took care of the rest of the laundry. While I sprawled out on the couch, with the fan blasting me, enjoying Oprah's visit to the Dallas State Fair, he continued slaving over the laundry, cleaning our bathroom, and even put all the freshly cleaned bedding back on the bed. He is so wonderful. He also had a midterm today, that he was trying to stay awake and study for. But first, he set up the laptop at the foot of our bed with Fantastic Mr. Fox (a favorite of ours) ready to put me to sleep. I am spoiled, and so blessed to have an amazing, thoughtful husband. I love falling asleep to movies... he knows that. I am a child. Bottom line, I so love my sweetheart.

millcreek adventure.

Jared and I almost always have Mondays off from work together. So, since we both work weekends, that's our day together. We had a late start to the day, but decided to venture up Millcreek Canyon which is only about 15 minutes from our place. Roughly 9 miles up the canyon is the trailhead for Bigwater Trail which leads to Dog lake. The canyon is full of tall pines and aspen, just beautiful. Not far into our adventure, we both were flailing our arms around us and swatting our arms, legs, faces, trying to rid ourselves of flies! Both of us, were surrounded in a cloud of flies for the majority of the hike. Awful. If we didn't swat them in time, they gave a terrible bite, too! I had little bloody bites on me and was itching horribly. My favorite was when a fly would land directly on my eyeball. Awesome. Poor Jared listened to me groan and fuss the whole hike. It was very difficult to enjoy the gorgeous view. When we reached Dog Lake, we received some relief from the attackers. Then, on the way down, didn't have quite as much fly irritation (we think, because we were moving faster). Moral of the story, always carry a bug zapper on hikes.

Jared had custody of the camera for the day and got some fun shots...

I had a little chat with this guy. He went crazy! I don't think he liked me.

In Dog Lake... there were 3 tiny ducklings, I was very concerned for them since Momma was obviously nowhere to be seen. Tried tossing them some granola bar but they were too scared to come close. Hope they survive!

smitten.

I am so drawn to Peter Pan collars, they add so much flair and charm to a piece. Basically, once I get my sewing machine I'll be sewing them onto everything I have.

fly fishing!

My older brother, Andy, took Jared and I fly fishing on the Provo River. It doesn't really matter if either of us caught anything... it's not important... so don't ask. It was a beautiful night and we had a blast! Neither of us had ever done the fly fishing thing, so it was great to attempt to master Andy's techniques. He was a great teacher. Along for the ride was sweet Javi, Andy's family dog... the Newfoundland. She is a great swimmer and loved being in the river with us. Thanks for a great night, Andy!
Javi (Javiera. Or as MSK likes to call her, Javelina)

Javi was totally buddied up with Jared, and was eager to get out of the cold water.

I love finding inspiration from design blogs. Love love love.

I really enjoy the bed against this fantastic window. Gorgeous headboard, too.

I am crazy about the prints on the wall. I keep saying I'm going to start painting bugs. We'll see.

Jellies. I might need these.
